Disconnect: A word

He said it with a whisper
With ripples of gentle humanness
With strength and plea and vulnerability
This was the last word of his sentence and this was earnest truth he was suggesting…..

..…. “Disconnect”…..

The word seemed never to have fallen
onto a more silent circumstance.
Or better, it seemed to zip up the cloak of air around us.
The building-size white noise buzz settled down into a hush
And even the electricity glowing from the rafter lamps shifted and leaned in
to listen
