Now….

Black tree branches cut over jack-o-lantern orange………… All awash in the deepening sky

And then….

Numb, bleary-eyed like from a too-long drive pushed the hours by, heaved the minutes like a yoke………….

Now….

Strong, yet this morning I spilled my coffee and it made me cry

And then….

Rest my head against a cold brick….. Pray that my thoughts leave like spindle….. Trail behind and up….. above my head like spider web thread

And so she shrieked and danced around, tried to make me chuckle (she’d gone crazy)…. Tried to make me understand…… And I, as she flapped about and sang, took my coat from the hook and smiled…… Took hold of her as our shoulders brushed each other by…..

Thanked her for trying and left her behind ……..

And now……………………………..
