Drop Two: Inside the Actor’s Studio Interiview

These ten (10) questions originally came from a French series, “Bouillon de Culture” hosted by Bernard Pivot. They’re better known as the questions that James Lipton asks every guest at the end of “Inside the Actor’s Studio.”

I’m positive that anyone who has ever watched the show has answered along to the person being interviewed…….. So here goes…….

1. What is your favorite word?
I love words!!….. love to learn definitions and meanings and if I had to choose a favorite that choice would be based within the meaning more than anything…. spindrift, unravel, and perceive are up there

2. What is your least favorite word?
the above explanation doesn’t apply to my least favorite…. “tasty”

3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
Within all of those things, humility, honesty and strength are biggies. I also love works that comment subtly on the obvious and how things relate to each other in not so obvious ways…. I also love a good love story… anyone who can do that has me…..

4. What turns you off?
Phoniness, manipulation, placation, disregard, people who say but don’t do…..

5. What is your favorite curse word?
ohhhhh, I know this is wrong but anything that invokes the wrath of God are good ones “God forsaken” “God Bless It”…. shite works pretty well to, in a pinch. At work and around children, it’s FUDGE.

6. What sound or noise do you love?
water rushing (waves, rain, what have you), wind, the guitar.

7. What sound or noise do you dislike?
Ahhhh! The sounds of commercials and ads and people whining.

8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
perhaps Doctor or Kindergarten teacher

9. What profession would you not like to do?
nightshift tele-marketer

10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
I knew you’d make it Leese.

oh yesssss, wind in leaves… at night… before a storm….. in the morning when you’ve got what to do….. And the dog dogs talking….. I’ve noticed that they have certain woofs that mean certain things… Like “Hello, I know you”… or, “Hello, stranger I’m barking THIS loud until you’re close enough for me to sniff”….

Reading over my answers to this list again is in a way, reading over myself 2 years ago. A lot has happened, a lot of work has been done in the last nearly two years since I answered these questions (so cleverly). But I know I’m different. So, maybe, as testimony to change, it would be good if I answered them again…. as me…. today. I a much the same, and much of me hasn’t changed, but rather, been enhanced or pared down in some way……

    1) What is your favorite word?
I still love etymology. I still am deeply drawn to the original greek and hebrew roots for many words… Especially those that tend to have a spiritual meaning. This comes from doing a lot of bible studies where certain words are focused on and given notation to their original greek or hebrew translation. My Strong’s Exhaustive has seen a lot of action. But anyway I think the original roots create layers of understanding of words, and lend to greater respect for the circumstance of their usage.

    2) What is your least favorite word?
This has changed a bit. There still some words that are annoying; They sound annoying, have annoying meanings…. but lately I tend to dislike the implication of certain words… currently they would be “hate” and “politics”. Also, a phrase that seems utterly absurd and is completely irritating to me is “I know, right?”.

    3) What turns you on creatively, spiritually and emotionally?
Hmmm, I don’t necessarily like the inference of being “turned on”. Rather, I like to be surprised and delighted, or, I have a deep reverence for those who are creatively aware, spiritually aligned and emotionally present.

    4) What turns you off?
Again, not too keen on the inference of being “turned on”. Rather let’s say, I am unimpressed with those that are self absorbed, boastful disrespectful, or those who lack self awareness…… Jeez. Do I judge much?

5). What is your favorite curse word?
I’ve been saying “shit” both with and without the “bull” added to it. Talk about self awareness.

6). What sound or noise do you love?
These have not changed: wind, water, guitar, vocal doggies. I have to add one though…. The sound of my beautiful dog’s deep sigh at bedtime just before I turn out the light– almost a shudder before she falls asleep, lined up against my legs comforted in the activity, allowing herself to finally settle in. I’ll never forget that sound. Remembering it is Mitzi alive and at my side. She was killed Thursday night by a car, with a friend of mine who’d picked her up for a visit while Collin and I were out of town………

7). What sound do you dislike?
The sound of my own voice, or the sound of another’s scolding their animals or their children unfairly.

8). What profession other than your own would you like to try?
If I had the time, I think I would still like to go into medicine, perhaps psychiatry or psychology… Which is what I wanted when I was a little girl… And kindergarten teacher is still up there but I think I’d like to try all the way up through 3rd grade. The opportunity to help even one child, other than my own, remember how much they are worth and how much potential they have would make me very happy. So many children forget that they’re worth anything……. or they never knew to begin with.

9& 10) Can’t say much has changed on either of these…. Although, now that I think of it, it would be pretty cool to have God say to me, “Come here, I want to show you a few things”.
